Neris Regional Park

Neris Regional Park

The Neris Regional Park is, first of all, the Neris with its picturesque vicinities, tiny villages and historical layers of old Lithuania.

The Park has been established in the most beautiful segment of the Neris in order to preserve the expressive landscape of the river valley, the distinctive flora and fauna, the unique system of the Neris midland turns and natural tributaries as well as the cultural heritage. The Neris Regional Park is situated in the triangle of Vilnius–Trakai–Kernavė, which is very attractive to tourists and connected by good country roads.

The exceptional position of the Park, i.e. between the two capitals of Lithuania – the old Kernavė and Vilnius, determines the abundance of the objects of cultural heritage. Along the banks of the river, the high mounds, saint grove hills, centennial oaks, old settlements and the abundance of barrows reveal our ancestors' times, the pattern of their lives, customs and beliefs. In the period of the establishment of the Lithuanian State, these territories were a centre of the unified Lithuanian lands and a core of the establishing Lithuanian State.
