History Museum

At the beginning of the XX century, priest V. Gaigalaitis, together with the "Sandora" society, decided to establish the first museum in Klaipėda. The society acquierd the buildings for the museum and set up a museum of history and ethnography and a library. The first collections of exhibits were received as a gift from Lithuanians of Lithuania Minor. Gradually the number of exhibits grew and in 1980 the exposition had more that 19000 exhibits. In 1988 the Klaipėda Ethnography Museum got the name of Lithuania Minor History Museum.

Today the Lithuania Minor History Museum draws the attention not only of Lithuanians, but also is visited by foreign tourists. In the museum, you can get acquainted with the historical, cultural, economical and social development of Lithuania Minor. In the museum archeological, ethnographical, cartographical and historical collections are on display.
