Hill of Witch
The Hill of Witches (John's, Eve's) keeps the memories of St. Jonas' Festival celebrated here since old days. In those midsummer nights burning pitch barrels would roll down the hill one after another into the sea.
The most remarkable decoration of the Hill of Witches is a park of folk art wooden sculptures. It was created in summers of 1979 - 1981 by the project of sculptor S. Šarapovas and architect A. Nasvytis. In 65 wooden sculptures created by 49 artists we can recognize the heroes of folk tales and legneds. Especially, witches and devils are numerous here. For young visitors at the foot of the hill there are swings and other playground attractions. Every year the sculptures are refurbished or repalced by other.
